About the platform
The Economic Geochemist is an independent platform focused on economic geology, geochemistry and mineral exploration.
The idea grew from my own experience as an exploration geologist. Scientific papers often contained valuable observations, methods and ideas, but identifying what was most relevant to an active exploration programme could be difficult when decisions had to be made quickly. I have been in that position, and I understand the challenge of extracting practical insights from a large and rapidly expanding scientific literature.
The Economic Geochemist examines how geological research, analytical data and mineral-systems thinking can improve the understanding, discovery and evaluation of mineral deposits. Its content covers ore-forming processes, critical minerals, exploration methods, geochemical tools, geological modelling and developments across the mining industry.
The aim is not to simplify the science at the expense of its complexity, but to make its significance clearer and more accessible. For industry professionals, this means identifying the concepts, evidence and methods that may inform real exploration and project decisions. For the scientific community, it provides another route for research findings to reach the practitioners, datasets and geological problems they were designed to inform.
The Economic Geochemist seeks to strengthen the connection between research and practice—helping scientific discoveries travel further while bringing the questions and challenges encountered in industry back into the wider geoscience conversation.

Founder and editor
Sebastian is an economic geologist and geochemist with seven years of experience in mineral exploration and consulting across precious-, base- and critical-mineral systems. His work has included epithermal Au–Ag, porphyry Cu, lithium–tantalum pegmatites and sediment-hosted copper, from regional targeting and geological modelling through drilling and project evaluation.
He is currently completing a PhD in Economic Geology and Geochemistry at the University of St Andrews, where his research examines the petrogenesis and geochemistry of Archean lithium-rich pegmatites in Zimbabwe. Through The Economic Geochemist, he combines industry experience with current research to evaluate what new scientific findings may—and may not—mean in practice.
Independent technical services
Alongside The Economic Geochemist, I provide independent geoscience support for mineral exploration projects, combining field-based exploration experience with geochemistry, geological modelling and applied research.
My work can support projects from early-stage targeting through drilling and geological interpretation, with particular experience in precious, base and critical mineral systems.
I am available for selected consulting, technical collaboration and project-based work.
